Peterhead Bay South Base:
The South Base was designed from inception to facilitate the prompt and efficient turn round of vessels involved in supplying and servicing the needs of the offshore oil and gas industry. The base acts as the centre of ASCo's Peterhead operations and offers a total of 12 berths across the South Base Quay, South Breakwater and Princess Royal Jetty.
South Base Quay
The South Base Quay is the hub of ASCo's logistics business for servicing the offshore oil and gas industry. The base is used extensively by platform support and anchor handling vessels, oil tankers and bulk carriers. The five berths, numbered 3 to 8 from West to East, are protected by solid polyester cylindrical 3m x 2.8m fenders. Berth 8 incorporates a 500 tonne heavy lift pad and is suitable for Ro-Ro use. Within the base there is 2,811 square metres of office
accommodation, 21,500 square metres of warehousing (of which 15,000 square metres is heated) and
approximately 4.5 hectares of open storage. Off-site, ASCo has a further 37 hectares of open storage at nearby Dales and Upperton Industrial Estates. All major chemical contractors are represented at the base for the supply of mud and cement commodities, and several have quayside facilities for the storage and distribution of their products.
Peterhead Bay Authority and ASCo have jointly provided additional water storage facilities and enhanced delivery equipment to provide loading rates of up to 100 tonnes per hour, with 4 vessels loading simultaneously. Modern vessel handling methods allow loading, offloading and bunkering to be carried out simultaneously, resulting in reduced turn around times.
Precision Tube Technology
Precision Tube Technology opened the first coil tubing manufacturing and service centre in Europe, located at the ASCo South Base, in 1996. The state of the art produces and quality tests coiled tubing from 1" to 6 5/8" outside diameter and offers an integrated pipe coating line. One of the principle factors for selecting Peterhead Bay Harbour as a location for major investment was the
availability of deepwater alongside berthing for direct loading of long lengths of tubing onto transportation and reeled tubing lay vessels.
South Breakwater
The South Breakwater is of granite construction and provides 4 berths protected by heavy rubber tyre fendering. The berths are numbered 9 to 12 from South to North. Fuel, fresh water and bulk chemicals/cement are available by road tanker.
A full range of material handling equipment including mobile cranes from 36 to 500 tonnes capacity, forklifts and transportation fleet is available at the South Base to meet the complete servicing needs of vessels using the berths.
