ASCo UK:
ASCo UK limited started life as Aberdeen Service
Company (North Sea) Ltd in 1967, at the very beginning
of exploration for oil in the Northern North Sea. Since
that time the company has developed into the leading
logistics company serving the UK oil industry and
Peterhead is firmly established as the flagship offshore
supply base in Europe.
In October 1996, the company underwent a management
buy-in which released it from Sidlaw Group PLC and
enabled ASCo to establish itself as an independent force
in the provision of managed logistics services.
The acquisition of Wood Group Offshore and Woodacon Oils
further strengthened ASCo's position in the oil and gas
industry by adding the Southern North Sea and the
Western UKCS to an already substantial Northern
operation.
The overall capabilities of ASCo and the Peterhead base
in particular allow flexibility and versatility in
meeting the requirements of all areas of the oil and gas
industry. Historically, offshore support operations have
been managed by oil companies with contractors providing
resources on demand. In addition to providing this
service when required, ASCo's forte is in the provision
of fully managed logistics services comprising all
aspects of the supply chain including materials control
and procurement using state-of-the-art technology and
sophisticated management systems.
Working with clients to achieve cost reduction and to
drive inefficiency out of the business is the way
forward for ASCo. The company has been pro-active in
brining innovative ways of working to the industry in
order to produce major cost savings without compromising
safety or quality.
From its Peterhead base, ASCo provides a broad scope of
onshore supply services including labour, materials
handling, waste management, fuels and lubes, and
engineering.
ASCo UK's own engineering facility, ASCo engineering,
has benefited from an ongoing programme of investment
and has increased capacity for the manufacture and
repair of downhole equipment and premium tubing and
casing. The plant is equipped with the latest CNC lathes
and a fully skilled workforce. Most of the premium
thread licenses are held by ASCo Engineering.
As a result of the aquisition of Woodacon Oils, ASCo UK
has formed ASCo Oils to distribute oils, fuel and lubes
to both the industrial and the domestic markets.
Other Services
ASCo UK has one of the largest transport fleets in the
North of Scotland including articulated units, flatbeds
and road tankers operating on a 24 hour basis. The
addition of vehicles at strategic UK base locations
enables ASCo to provide a country wide service with
warehousing and storage facilities to suit individual
project requirements. State-of-the-art materials and
personnel tracking systems can cope with everything from
container tracking to fully integrated accounting and
materials control systems for production companies.
Marine Management Services
ASCo is able to provide assistance to offshore
operations through its comprehensive marine services.
Traditionally, each oil company chartered its own fleet
of dedicated vessels but access to vessel sharing
through a polled fleet gives major benefits - fewer
sailings and lower vessel costs through better vessel
utilisation leading to a reduction in non-productive
time.
The company has a vessel fleet consisting of 21
state-of-the-art PSVs and AHTs in addition to safety
standby vessels. New built vessels are added on long
term charter to provide increased capacity and to ensure
the fleet meets the latest standards and specifications.
Development
In the current climate of increasing vessel charter
rates, ASCo has been pro-active in seeking ways in which
to drive inefficiency out of offshore distribution and
pass cost reduction to clients. A new distribution
concept, which brings together all aspects of the supply
chain, has already been adopted by several operators and
interest from the industry is high.
ASCo's philosophy is to work in partnership with both
clients and suppliers to achieve each party's objectives
and benefits for all.
In addition to working with clients, teamwork plays an
important role in ASCo's company culture. ASCo has
achieved the national Investors in People standard for
training and developing its workforce and adheres to the
highest standards of quality and safety.
